Is it time to park the problem?
Parking a problem isn't the same as ignoring it or running away from it. It's actually a really useful way to get information that may help you towards solving that problem...because you can't solve a problem from within the problem.
This is the very thing I do with clients. We get to the actual problem or situation that they want coaching on. We talk about it enough to get clear on what it is. And then I divert their attention. It's very intentional. Leading them somewhere else to look for resources that will be useful. And not just any resources, their resources. It can be so subtle, they don't even know it's happening.
The thing that always, without fail, happens is that they often find several things from their toolkit that they've forgotten. Tools that will be helpful in their current situation.
They don't necessarily connect the dots right away which is why we always circle back to that original problem at the end of our session. This is the chance to check in and look for difference. And it's that simple, asking the question: "What's different now?" Not, "is there something different"? "What's different?" Assuming that there will be because asking the question that way has their brain look for difference and they always find it.
Whether the person says they feel lighter, or the situation looks smaller, or something else that may seem small, those are really big clues.
These clues tell me that there's been a shift in their perspective and often it's the smallest shift that can:
Get someone who's stuck, moving again.
Open up a solution that they didn't see earlier.
Shrink the problem into a manageable situation.
So how about you? What strategies do you use to solve problems?
Are you ready?
Let's get to it...
Your challenge...
It's "that time of the year"...one might argue that it's more important than New Year's. The start of September. Back to school. For some, back to work. For many...back to "regular life".
There's no better time than now.
Is it time to get some assistance with that problem that you just can't seem to get traction on? I'm here, I'm ready, and I can't wait to hear from you!
